Motorcycling Initiatives in Powys

Powys County Council's Road Safety team has organised enhanced rider training courses for motorcyclists who live in Powys or use Powys' roads. Thanks to Welsh Government funding, it is free of charge to attend.

Enhanced Rider Scheme

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Enhanced Rider Scheme is suitable for full motorcycle licence holders who want to improve their riding skills, for those returning to riding after a break, riders who have just passed their test, people upgrading to a more powerful motorcycle or those who want to check their riding standard.

The course starts with a short theory session, which takes place online between 7pm and 9pm via Microsoft Teams.

Following completion of the theory session, riders will take part in a half-day practical session with an experienced trainer on a Saturday or Sunday. There is no test - your riding will be assessed and appropriate training provided. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be presented with a DVSA certificate of competence.

Biker Down! Cymru

Biker Down! Cymru is a free 3 hour course for motorcyclists wishing to enhance their knowledge and broaden their experience in dealing with incidents or collisions that may require first aid at the roadside.

It consists of three modules:

  • Incident scene management
  • Casualty care
  • The science of being seen
