Neath Port Talbot Council has announced a number of motorcycle courses for 2023, all of which are subsidised by the Welsh Government.
BikeSafe
BikeSafe is national police run motorcycle initiative aimed at working with motorcycle riders, in a relaxed environment, to raise the importance and value of progressing onto accredited post-test training. The purpose of BikeSafe is to upskill riders, instil confidence and increase their depth of knowledge and understanding, with an aim to making them safer road users.
The BikeSafe assessment course involves a morning of discussion to explore the main riding hazards that riders face, whilst the afternoon consists of an observed ride with a police motorcyclist or an approved BikeSafe observer who will help determine strengths and weaknesses.
BikeSafe workshops aim to cover rider attitude, systematic methods, collision causation, cornering, positioning, overtaking, observation, braking, hazard perception and the use of gears. BikeSafe is an ideal introduction to the Enhanced Rider Scheme, Dragon Rider Cymru.
This course consists of a morning in the classroom and then an afternoon riding with an instructor.
BikeSafe must be booked directly via bikesafe.co.uk using the voucher code NPT-2023. This code ensures that you have your place, normally £65 per person, for free!
Dates are as follows:
- Saturday 3rd June
- Saturday 1st July
- Saturday 22nd July
- Saturday 12th August
- Saturday 9th September
- Saturday 7th October
Dragon Rider Cymru
Dragon Rider Cymru is a motorcycle rider training course supported by the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency Enhanced Rider Scheme.
Neath Port Talbot's Road Safety Team developed this enhanced rider scheme with an aim to aiding post-test riders to improve their riding. Dragon Rider Cymru follows the syllabus laid down by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Enhanced Rider Scheme and is delivered by experienced and qualified motorcycle Instructors who are accredited as DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme Trainers.
As a natural progression from the BikeSafe course, riders can engage with a registered trainer who is provided with an assessment report post BikeSafe or conducts his/her own skills assessment. This forms the basis of the course, and the timeframe is relevant to the rider’s needs.
This course consists of a morning in the classroom and then an afternoon riding with an instructor.
Dates are as follows:
- Sunday 14th May
- Sunday 4th June
- Sunday 2nd July
- Sunday 13th August
- Sunday 10th September
- Sunday 8th October
