Electric motorcycles, scooters and mopeds

The latest data released by the Department for Transport shows that bikers are starting to embrace electric propulsion!

With air pollution considered to be one of the largest environmental health risks of our generation, according to the World Health Organisation, our risk of heart and lung disease is greater and pre-existing health conditions such as asthma could become worse.

With the Welsh Government now demonstrating a commitment of putting the environment at the heart of everything it does, and with the benefits that motorcycling brings such as cutting down on congestion in our towns and cities, it’s fantastic to see the significant growth of electric powered two wheelers.

In just 5 years, the amount of licensed electric motorcycles, scooters and mopeds in Great Britain has increased from around 900 in 2015 to 4,700 in 2020 – over 420%.

Furthermore, despite an incredibly tough 2020 due to COVID-19 with the country being in lockdown for a number of months, there was still a rise of licensed electric motorcycles, scooters and mopeds compared to 2019 where 2800 were licensed.

Ok, we’ve still got some way to go with over 1¼ million still running on petrol, but as the saying goes - every little helps!
