However long you've been riding, it's never too late to learn more. An advanced riding course helps you develop your skills and then enables you to showcase them on the test.
IAM RoadSmart has five groups covering the whole of Wales who'll help you prepare for the IAM Advanced Motorcycle test.
The course includes 7 competencies;
- Human Factors
- Core Riding Skills
- Bends and Cornering
- Roundabouts and Junctions
- Motorways and Dual Carriageways
It's based on the Police Foundation's 'Roadcraft' system of Information, Positioning, Speed, Gears and Acceleration (IPSGA). The test is currently taken using serving or retired police motorcyclists as examiners.
The five groups in Wales also offer free 'Taster' sessions where you'll be able to have a free assessment and taste of what is involved when doing the advanced riding course.
IAM RoadSmart Advanced Riding Standards are used throughout the IAM and logbooks are used to record your progress. The logbook can be used with any IAM RoadSmart group, anywhere in the UK, without having to restart the course, should you move.
